Doodles are a mix of a poodle and another selected dog breed. This may be arguable in many aspects but truthfully, with ethical breeding and breeding to a breed standard, the mixing of the two breeds make a great cross. Actually, despite the animal, breeds manifested from mixing other dog breeds to a create an expectation. This can be done with doodles with a community of other good doodle breeders and proper education to doodle owners. Doodles, specifically the labradoodle and goldendoodle, originated in the late 1980's in Australia with the initial intention of combining the poodle trait of hypoallergenic and personality traits of golden retrievers/labs to make therapy and service dogs for those with allergies. This has been a success for many individuals, but when mixing the breeds, you must be willing to take a risk of the various traits you can get within an offspring.
We take great pride in the parent dogs that we breed from. We selectively breed based on a health and personality perspective. All of our dogs are genetically tested through Embark or Pawprint to make certain we are not breeding any inheritable genetic diseases. All of our parent dogs' temperament and personality is also assessed to generate offspring with stable and sound characteristics. We are currently in the process of health testing our registered dogs to further certify the optimum quality production of puppies.
Something unique and special to Doodling Around is we host "Puppy Parties." A puppy party is where we gather a group of our offspring together at the local dog park in Goyne Park Chester, Va. These puppy parties occur about once a year, but several occurrences is possible with high interest. Every party is different as some parties may include just goldendoodles, just labradoodles, all of our offspring, or specific litter themes! We do this to get feedback from our breeding's and connect our Doodling Around family. We are thrilled to say we often have our families that live hours away make sure they can attend the party too so it is well worth it!
As a doodle breeder, we can not guarantee that a puppy is fully hypoallergenic or the likelihood of shedding. We do have a general idea of shedding depending on the puppy's generation, the parent's coat type, and feedback from previous litters. Though it is very likely for many families to not have allergies to a doodle, it depends on the individual's severity of allergies and whether the allergy is to the saliva or dandruff from the dog. We do have an allergy policy that states once a puppy is taken home at 8 weeks, if allergy symptoms are apparent from the dog, the puppy can be returned for a full refund within 14 days of the puppy being taken home, however it is important to note that the allergy must be mentioned before the puppy is taken home.
Included in all of our sales contracts is a first right of refusal. All of our puppies are required to only be rehomed to Doodling Around, despite the circumstance, if the original owner can no longer care for the puppy or dog at any time. Doodling Around accepts full responsibility of accepting any puppy/dog, at any time, and for any reason. Once returned, the puppy/dog will be assessed, nursed back to health if needed, and rehomed to an approved and adequate family. If the first right of refusal is broke, Doodling Around can take the original owner to court in Chesterfield, County at the owner's expense. We also do not guarantee a refund for the first right of refusal. With the first right of refusal, we are doing our part as a breeder to ensure our offspring does not add to the population at the shelter/pound, abandoned, nor in the hands of a incompetent family.
All of our puppies go home with a spay/neuter contract that requires the puppy to be spayed if a female and neutered if a male. This must occur between the age of 12-24 months old, or as recommended by a professional veterinarian. We do this to ensure that when the production of puppies occur, it only occurs by responsible, knowledgeable, and ethical breeders. If a reputable breeder is interested in one of our puppies, we would process them with a breeder application.
